APPLICATION REVIEW / LENS TOOLING
Lens Moulds for Automotive Lighting
Discuss an automotive lighting lens mould with Yuya. Define optical surfaces, appearance requirements and inspection criteria before requesting a quotation.
Discuss your component
Define what the lens needs to do
A useful automotive lens mould inquiry starts with the component’s role in the lighting system. Describe whether the part is an outer cover, an internal optical element or another transparent component. Identify the surfaces that control light, the areas visible to the customer and the features that locate the part in its housing. These distinctions give the tooling discussion a practical starting point.
Send the approved drawing revision and explain which requirements are fixed and which remain open to design review. A reference photograph helps communicate appearance, but it cannot replace defined geometry or measurable acceptance criteria.
Bring optical and tooling requirements together
Gate position influences filling and can leave a visible mark, so discuss permitted gate locations alongside the finished part’s appearance. Mark areas where parting lines, ejector contact or trimming marks would be unacceptable. Any proposed compromise should be reviewed against the component’s actual function rather than a general promise of an invisible gate.
Specify the resin grade, surface finish requirements and any subsequent coating process. Include the relevant material supplier guidance. Ask for proposed tooling decisions to be explained against the drawing, with unresolved issues identified before the design is released for manufacture.
For a structured drawing review, use our DFM checklist for automotive lighting lens moulds to work through gates, optical surfaces, cooling and sample evaluation.
Decide how the samples will be evaluated
Dimension, appearance and optical behaviour are different acceptance questions. State how each will be assessed, which reference samples or drawings apply and who will approve the results. If illuminated evaluation is required, describe the test setup and the customer’s responsibility for the light source and surrounding assembly.
For supplier comparison, request a quotation that separates the tool scope, proposed review milestones and required documentation. Agree how drawing changes, sample feedback and any additional work will be recorded. A clear review process makes competing proposals easier to assess on the same basis.
Our guide to evaluating an automotive lighting mould supplier explains how to compare technical proposals and agree the evidence needed for approval.
Prepare a lens mould inquiry
Contact Yuya with a concise project brief, the intended production location and your target timing. Confirm the available scope for the particular component before ordering. Trial samples and a separate plastic part production requirement should be specified independently so that the quotation reflects the work you actually need.
- Component drawing, revision and approved material grade
- Optical surfaces, appearance zones and assembly interfaces
- Production machine information and required tool documentation
- Sample acceptance method and project decision milestones
