APPLICATION REVIEW / TWO-COMPONENT TOOLING
2K Injection Moulds for Automotive Lighting
Review a 2K injection mould requirement with Yuya. Discuss material combinations, machine interfaces and sample approval for an automotive lighting component.
Discuss your component
Explain why the part needs two components
A 2K injection mould inquiry should explain the purpose of each material or colour in the finished part. For an automotive lighting component, describe the transparent, coloured or opaque regions and the required interface between them. State whether the joint is intended to provide adhesion, a mechanical connection or another defined function. The term two component alone does not specify the production method.
Provide the approved grades for both materials and their supplier guidance. Material compatibility includes processing conditions, dimensional behaviour and the required bond. Do not assume that similar colours or a shared polymer family establish a suitable combination.
Review the tool and machine as a system
Before selecting a tool arrangement, identify the intended production equipment and provide the relevant machine interface information. Discuss how the first component will be held or transferred for the next moulding stage. A rotary arrangement, a transfer approach and other methods have different equipment and handling requirements; the appropriate concept needs review against the actual part.
Clarify whether the mould will run at your facility or another agreed location. Ask the quotation to identify assumptions about injection units, mounting, connections and handling. Any required equipment adaptation should be resolved as an explicit responsibility before tool design approval.
Agree how the interface will be approved
Mark the boundary between the components and specify acceptable appearance at that boundary. Include any restrictions on flash, material overlap, exposed edges and visible transitions. Where adhesion is required, define the evaluation method and acceptance conditions instead of treating a successful first sample as proof of performance throughout the intended service conditions.
Request a sampling plan that records the material grades and the relevant process conditions. Establish how dimensional, appearance and interface findings will be reviewed. If environmental or functional testing is required, name the responsible organisation and agree how those results affect tool acceptance.
Use our 2K light guide defect review to frame questions about material interfaces, visible surfaces and trial evidence. Each recommendation still needs checking against your actual part and resin grades.
Confirm feasibility before committing the scope
Use this page to prepare a technical conversation with Yuya about a proposed 2K mould. Project feasibility, available equipment and deliverables require confirmation against your specification. A request for independently supplied moulded components should be evaluated separately from the tooling quotation. Agree commercial terms and timing only after the technical requirements and outstanding decisions are clear.
For the commercial and technical handover, our supplier evaluation guide helps define responsibilities, review milestones and the documents to request with a tooling proposal.
