Connect the tool brief to the optical design

A light guide mould inquiry needs more than the external shape of the component. Provide the intended lighting function, the entry points for light and the surfaces that belong to the optical design. Mark mounting features and the relationship between the light guide, its light source and the surrounding assembly. The component should be discussed in the context in which it will be evaluated.

Identify the owner of the optical design and the latest approved geometry. Separate fixed optical features from mechanical details that may be considered for change. This makes it clear which decisions require customer approval during tooling review.

Record the details that must survive moulding

Provide the resin grade, material documentation and required surface specifications. Mark optical features on the model and drawing instead of using a general description such as high precision. Discuss permitted gate positions, parting lines and ejection contact in relation to those features. Requests for changes should state the affected surface and the reason for the proposal.

Ask for the proposed tool concept and its open technical questions to be reviewed together. Where analysis or additional evaluation is needed, agree who will perform it, what information is required and which decision the result is intended to support.

Define the illuminated acceptance setup

A photograph of an unlit part cannot establish its performance in a lamp. Specify how samples will be assessed with the intended light source and assembly conditions. Include the customer’s optical evaluation criteria, dimensional requirements and approach to recording surface defects. Agree responsibility for the evaluation equipment and for approving the final result.

Yuya’s separate light guide portfolio contains original product photographs from the previous website. Those images provide application context. This page addresses a new mould inquiry and its technical review; the archived shapes do not define your drawing, acceptance requirements or an available catalogue part.

For a light guide involving two materials, our guide to common defects in 2K light guides outlines questions for the trial review. It is general guidance, not evidence of the performance of a particular Yuya project.

Bring a reviewable optical component package

Contact Yuya to discuss the proposed component and confirm whether the requested tooling scope fits the project. State separately if you need trial samples or an independent plastic part production quotation. Before ordering, agree the deliverables, drawing revision control, acceptance responsibilities and the process for resolving findings from sample evaluation.

Before requesting comparable quotations, review how to evaluate a lighting mould supplier and identify the records your procurement and engineering teams need.

  • Optical geometry and approved material specification
  • Light source interfaces and assembly reference information
  • Surface restrictions and dimensional inspection requirements
  • Illuminated test conditions and named approval responsibilities
